That's right, Furious Reader: it's that time again. Time for Rick's Tips for Comic Book Creators. Below are some thoughts I've scraped together over the years I've been slugging away at this whole comics thing: 1. Draw, you fool. Feeling guilty that you drew something unrelated to your comic? That's because you're stuck in "comics rut". Break out. Draw whatever you want. Draw something abstract, something weird, something normal, something everyday. Do some life-drawings of your attractive friends, or better yet, your unattractive friends. Draw outside, draw inside. Sketch the DMV. Doodle in the margins of legal documents (birth certificates are a particular favorite). Draw with paint: this revolutionary new concept is called, "painting". Sculpt something; it ain't drawing, but who cares? Make music, animate, write, read. But most of all draw. The sketchbook is the single most cobwebbed tool in any comic book creators' ars...

Hiya, hiya, hiya...it's been a long time since I've done one of these! Once again it's the Blind Alley Comics Update, conveying our upcoming titles, events, goals and dreams for the next few months. Yep, new year, new weird...no politics here. I consider my blog a politics-free haven. A lot has happened to me lately, all positive; I have a lot to be grateful for. Here's a rundown on all the cool stuff I've gotten into within the past few months: New Job!   That's right folks, since October I've been working at Capital Imaging in Lansing, a print shop - ten years after graduating, I'm finally using my damn Graphic Design degree!!! I started out as a Finisher (stack, chop, fold, etc.), which was awesome...but at the beginning of January I was bumped up to Marketing Assistant, which is twice as awesome. Now I've got my finger on the proverbial pulse of the company, wielding my marionette sticks as the Puppet Master...well, not really. But still, it's pretty rad. New Web! Yes, comicsfans, it's almost here! Number 7 is set to debut in the middle of September. I'll have an availability list on the BAC Facebook page. Also be on the lookout...Bone Boy #4 is out; THC's #2 and #5 are going to be reprinted, so we'll have copies for those who want them. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that the THC 1-5 Trade Paperback might be coming soon...! But we'll see. Oh, and don't forget...a certain coterie of conniving cats will be making their second appearance in December...more information, as to their whereabouts and the content of their diabolical schemes, is unavailable at this time...I'll keep you posted. Yes, you heard that correctly, sportsfans! Blind Alley Comics is going digital. Entering the internet age. Gettin the Ones and Zeros. World Wide Webbing. We just talked with web designer Rob Hix, who has generously agreed to design an awesome site for a pitifully small fee (we're kind of embarrassed about it). You'll be able to buy our comics and posters, both digital and hard-copy; view our awesome artwork in all its glory; see upcoming releases and view ancient history (of our work, that is); and find great links to other cool stuff that's floating around in the websphere, all alone. The site itself will be pretty immersive: lots of cool animations, an art gallery that's really a shooting gallery, and a creepy, gritty nighttime atmosphere. You're gonna love it, I guarantee it.
